China (1.3M tons) remains the largest self-adhesive printed label producing country in Asia-Pacific, accounting for 53% of total volume. Moreover, self-adhesive printed label production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (496K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (240K tons), with a 9.4% share.
In China, self-adhesive printed label production expanded at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2013-2024. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+5.4% per year) and Japan (-0.8% per year).
Self-adhesive printed label imports expanded slightly to 149K tons in 2024, with an increase of 3.9% compared with 2023 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2013 to 2024; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 164K tons. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, self-adhesive printed label imports expanded to $1.2B in 2024. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked at $1.4B in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The countries with the highest levels of self-adhesive printed label imports in 2024 were Hong Kong SAR (24K tons), Vietnam (22K tons), Singapore (21K tons) and Malaysia (17K tons), together resulting at 57% of total import. Myanmar (11K tons) took a 7.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Cambodia (7%). Indonesia (6.1K tons), Bangladesh (5.8K tons), Thailand (5.3K tons) and China (4.9K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($213M), Hong Kong SAR ($182M) and Cambodia ($102M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2024, together comprising 43% of total imports. China, Singapore, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +16.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The import price in Asia-Pacific stood at $7,743 per ton in 2024, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $11,348 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($18,634 per ton), while Malaysia ($1,815 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
In 2024, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of self-adhesive printed labels, when their volume increased by 7.9% to 192K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at 199K tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, self-adhesive printed label exports rose markedly to $1.6B in 2024. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 29%. The level of export peaked at $1.8B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China prevails in exports structure, finishing at 141K tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2024. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (17K tons) and Malaysia (10K tons), together creating a 14% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (7.1K tons) and Vietnam (3.9K tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2013 to 2024, average annual rates of growth with regard to self-adhesive printed label exports from China stood at +4.9%. At the same time, Vietnam (+12.9%) and Malaysia (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +12.9% from 2013-2024. Taiwan (Chinese) experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hong Kong SAR (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+20 p.p.) and Malaysia (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2013-2024, the share of Hong Kong SAR (-16.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($1.1B) remains the largest self-adhesive printed label supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($273M), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 3.3% share.
In China, self-adhesive printed label exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2013-2024. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-6.4% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.6% per year).
The export price in Asia-Pacific stood at $8,440 per ton in 2024, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 32%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,050 per ton. From 2017 to 2024, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($16,250 per ton), while Malaysia ($2,753 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
